The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division plans to deploy staff to 44 jurisdictions across 18 states Tuesday to monitor compliance with voting rights laws.

“Our federal laws protect the right of all American citizens to vote without suffering discrimination, intimidation, and harassment,” Eric S. Dreiband, Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, said in a prepared statement Monday.
