About:

Dr. Melissa Miller is an expert on American politics with a specific focus on elections and voting behavior, women in American politics, public opinion, and the media. She teaches courses in American Government, Political Parties, Voter Behavior, Women in American Politics, and Research Methods. In 2016 Dr. Miller was named Master Teacher — the highest teaching award on campus.

Dr. Miller is frequently interviewed by local, regional, national, and international media. She has appeared in/on CNN, ABC News, Fox News, Al Jazeera, The New York Times, The Guardian,  and The New York Review of Books, among others. In recognition of her extensive commitment to public engagement, Dr. Miller was awarded the 2018 Community Engagement Award by BGSU’s Faculty Senate.

Dr. Miller’s research on American politics appears in Public Opinion Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, Politics & Gender, American Politics Research, and PS: Political Science and Politics, among others.

Dr. Miller frequently collaborates with her students on research projects. Many of them have used this experience to launch their own projects for presentations at student research symposia and inclusion in job and graduate school applications.

Dr. Miller holds an A.B. from Cornell University, where she majored in Government; a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University, where her concentration was Press, Politics & Public Policy; and a PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University.
